该剧以中国人民抗日战争和世界反法西斯战争时期的滇西为背景，讲述了中国共产党引领滇西民众保家卫国的抗战故事。 滕冲，这个秀丽的中国西南边陲重镇，曾经是西南“丝绸之路”的起始点，素有“小上海”之称，地灵人杰，人才辈出。二十年代，和顺乡的华侨集资建造了中国第一座乡村图书馆。曾几何时，这里商贾云集，交易繁忙。随着第二次世界大战的临近，这个连接“东亚”与“南亚”的重要战略枢纽。开始变得不太平了……。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
